Young fathers face unbeatable odds,
I have been working with two young dads who are not coping well. These teen dads’ stories seem to parallel each other. They are faced with the struggles of now being fathers, dealing with fractured relationships with the mothers, and not knowing how to support their children, let alone take care of themselves. These young dads so desperately want to be in their children’s lives but don’t have the tools to do so! They both are very broken over their situations, not wanting their children to become fatherless! It is so vital that we begin to mentor these young fathers in their darkest hour, helping them find tools that work so we can see our communities healed and fatherhood brought back to our neighbourhoods. Mentorship does work; one of my volunteers, Darin Adams, has helped his mentee find a job! This job was much needed and came at the right time, enabling this young father to stay with his young family and not abandon them (skip out, as he told us), because he could no longer support them! Praise God for mentors like Darin and Praise God for our committed young fathers!
